Centraligner® pier sleds and Hijacker pier bolsters

The sole purpose of our products is to keep a reinforcing steel cage centered and off of the floor of a drilled shaft to insure proper alignment and concrete cover in accordance with ACI specifications.

The products are made from 8,500 psi high strength grout. The sled is patented and the bolster is patent pending. The sled is curved in such a way as to allow the cage to be placed in the shaft without gouging the side of the shaft. And, if an inspector or someone else, wants to reinspect the cage and/or shaft, the cage can be withdrawn without gouging the sides.

The sled has four sets of #16 gauge integrated tie wires for ease of installation. This is the same gauge tie wires which the laborers are using to tie the other reinforcing steel on the job. The bolsters have #9 gauge wire embedded for ease of installation. (Epoxy coated or stainless steel tie wires are available.)

Generally, it takes an unskilled laborer 40 seconds to "tie on" a sled and a minute-10 seconds to "tie on" bolster.

The sleds are made in sizes of 2", 3", 4" and 6". The bolsters are made in 3" and 6" inch sizes. The 6" bolster is actually 8" tall with a 2" shaft cast in the top portion to enable a portion of the vertical rebar to fit therein. Otherwise, the bolster cannot be sufficiently secured to the cage because of its length.

The 3" sled and the 3" bolster are the products most commonly used. (The 4" sled is used when a shaft is cased and the casing is to be removed. The 6" sleds and bolsters are used in Alabama, North and South Carolina and Florida as a respective state DOTs require 6" of cover. The 6" sled has #9 gauge tie wire at each end because of its weight.)

Our competition is generally a rock, brick, 2 X 4, or nothing. NOTHING is our biggest competitor!

Our products are quality assurance products; thus, they are contingent liability reducers.

Regarding specifying our products on publicly funded jobs:

A patented product can in fact be specified when an "or equal" does not exist, as the specifier is either a registered engineer or architect. This registration gives them the legal authority to specify a product they deem appropriate. The court case of Whitten vs. Paddock verified this fact. My research reveals that there is not a Federal regulation of any kind which prohibits specifying a patented product. To prohibit such a specification would in fact be discrimination against a patented item(s). If an individual states that he/she is prohibited by law from specifying a proprietary product then ask them for a copy of the regulation! I have yet to have anyone present me with a copy or quote chapter and verse of any such regulation.
